Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn lead upcoming Marvel series Secret Invasion, which has just had its first trailer debut at Disney’s D23 Expo.

Jackson is back as Nick Fury, who we see return from having spent years away from Earth. “I have called for your help plenty of other times and you’ve been pretty content to let those calls go straight to voicemail,” says an understandably upset Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders, reprising her role). A worse for wear-looking Fury responds, “Yeah, well, this is different.”

The big threat putting the planet at risk: a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls, who have been infiltrating Earth for years. Marvel Comics fans have been waiting for this chapter to hit screens for years now; fingers crossed it’s as momentous as it looks.

Joining Jackson, Mendelsohn (back as the Skrull Talos) and Smulders are Don Cheadle (reprising his longtime role as Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes — aka War Machine), Martin Freeman (back as Everett K. Ross), Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, and Kingsley Ben-Adir, among others.

The series was created by Mr. Robot writer and executive producer Kyle Bradstreet, with episodes directed by Thomas Bezucha (Let Him Go, The Family Stone) and Ali Selim (In Treatment, Manhunt: Unabomber).

Secret Invasion will be premiering on Disney+ sometime in Spring (U.S. season) 2023.
