The official teaser trailer for Season 2 of Netflix‘s global phenomenon Squid Game has been released! It brings with it some very enticing new footage from what looks like a brutal, twist-filled return to the deadly games. Take a look at the trailer above and check out two new character posters below.
Our protagonist, Gi-hun, portrayed by Lee Jung-jae, who we once knew for his optimistic and spirited nature, has certainly undergone a bit of a transformation following the events of the first chapter. As the trailer above shows, he now exhibits a hardened demeanour as he returns to the games, determined to expose the deadly truth behind the competition.
“Season 2 explores how Gi-hun follows through on his words after leaving the airport,” director Hwang Dong-hyuk explains in a featurette released on Netflix site Tudum. “Gi-hun’s endeavor to find out who these people are and why they do what they do is the core story of Season 2.”
Season 2 also signals the return of the enigmatic Front Man, portrayed by Lee Byung-hun, whose true motives remain shrouded as he continues to manipulate the game from behind the scenes. His presence, alongside Gi-hun’s fight for truth, sets the stage for a season of high-stakes twists and psychological confrontations.
Also confirmed in the new trailer is the return of detective Hwang Jun-ho, played by Wi Ha-jun, who continues his relentless pursuit of truth. The cast will also introduce fresh faces, including Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, and Park Gyu-young, each bringing a new dimension to the ensemble of characters who find themselves ensnared in Squid Game’s deadly allure.
The anticipation surrounding Squid Game continues beyond this upcoming release, with director Hwang confirming that Season 3 is already planned for a 2025 release – a season that will serve as the show’s concluding chapter. The countdown is on for Squid Game Season 2, premiering on Netflix on 26 December.
