A new teaser trailer for Squid Game season 2 has been unveiled during Netflix‘s Geeked Week virtual event, giving fans another glimpse into the upcoming season of the hit South Korean series. Watch it above.
The latest teaser brings viewers back into the tense atmosphere of the deadly survival game. As the pink-uniformed guards prepare for action, Seong Gi-hun, portrayed by Lee Jung-jae, appears visibly shaken, once again donning his iconic 456 tracksuit.
Season 2 will pick up three years after Gi-hun’s victory in the original competition. According to a Netflix synopsis, the character “gave up going to the States and comes back with a new resolution in his mind.” He is drawn back into the life-or-death game, joining a fresh group of participants all vying for a massive cash prize of 45.6 billion won.
The show’s creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, continues his involvement as writer, director, and executive producer. Hwang, who made history by winning the Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (specifically, for the pilot/first episode, titled “Red Light, Green Light”), spoke in 2023 about the expectations surrounding the new season. “I do have a lot on my shoulders, but I’ll make sure it’s worth the wait,” Hwang told Netflix site Tudum.
Returning cast members include Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo, while new faces joining the ensemble include Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, and Park Gyu-young, adding further intrigue to the second season.
Mark the date: Squid Game Season 2 is set to premiere on Netflix on December 26. Fans of the show can also look forward to Season 3, which is expected to arrive in 2025 and will mark the final chapter of the hit series.
