‘The Amateur’ Trailer: Rami Malek Hunts Down Terrorists

20th Century Studios has unveiled the first trailer for The Amateur, a high-stakes espionage thriller led by Oscar winner Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody, Mr. Robot). Check it out above.

Based on the 1981 novel of the same name by Robert Littell (a previous adaptation, starring John Savage, Christopher Plummer, and Marthe Keller, was released that year), the film follows Charlie Heller (Malek), a quiet but sharp-minded CIA code expert who works out of Langley’s basement offices. His world is turned upside down after his wife is killed in a London terrorist attack. When his superiors decide against pursuing those responsible, a heartbroken and frustrated Heller sets off across the globe to chase down the truth on his own terms – and find ways to use his intelligence background against the trail of adversaries he uncovers.

There’s a notable cast joining Malek, including Lawrence Fishburne, Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Michael Stuhlbarg, Holt McCallany, Julianne Nicholson, Adrian Martinez, and Danny Sapani.

The film is directed by James Hawes (One Life, Slow Horses) and written by Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down, Only the Brave) and Gary Spinelli (American Made). The team of producers includes Malek himself, Hutch Parker, Dan Wilson, and Joel B. Michaels, with JJ Hook as executive producer.

The Amateur is slated to hit Australian cinemas on 10 April 2025, with a U.S. release set for 11 April 2025.
