A new trailer has arrived for upcoming DreamWorks Animation feature The Bad Guys, featuring a voice cast that includes Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Craig Robinson, Anthony Ramos, Awkwafina, and Zazie Beetz, among others.
Based on the New York Times best-selling book series by Aaron Blabey, the action-comedy follows a crackerjack criminal crew of animal outlaws who, after being caught, attempt to fool the world that they’ve been transformed into model citizens. The dashing pickpocket Mr. Wolf (Rockwell), seen-it-all safecracker Mr. Snake (Maron), chill master-of-disguise Mr. Shark (Robinson), short-fused “muscle” Mr. Piranha (Ramos) and sharp-tongued expert hacker Ms. Tarantula (Awkwafina) endeavour to make believe they’ve gone good. Along the way, though, Mr. Wolf begins to suspect that actually doing good may be finding him the acceptance he’s always longed for. Can he persuade the rest of the gang to become — The Good Guys?
A charming, energetic-looking family film here, with a ‘bad guy gone good’ plot that could provide DreamWorks a hit like Despicable Me did for Illumination and Universal. This is the first feature as director for Pierre Perifel, an animator whose credits include the Kung Fu Panda movies, Shrek Forever After, and Monsters vs. Aliens. The script was written by Tropic Thunder and Men in Black 3 scribe Etan Cohen, with additional material by Hilary Winston (Community, The Lego Ninjago Movie).
The Bad Guys, also featuring voice work from Richard Ayoade, Lilly Singh and Alex Borstein, will be in Australian cinemas on March 31st and U.S. cinemas on April 22nd.
