CBSUniversal streaming service Peacock has released the official trailer for The Continental, the upcoming three-part event series that serves as a prequel to the John Wick films.

The plot takes us to 1970’s NYC and follows a young Winston Scott, who was played by Ian McShane in the films and is here played by Colin Woodell (The Flight Attendant). We explore the origin behind the iconic hotel-for-assassins as a young Winston is dragged into the Hell-scape of 1970’s New York City to face a past he thought he’d left behind. Winston charts a deadly course through the hotel’s mysterious underworld in a harrowing attempt to seize the hotel where he will eventually take his future throne.

The cast of this slick-looking three-parter includes Mel Gibson, Ayomide Adegun (playing a younger Charon, who was played by the late Lance Reddick in the films), Peter Green, Ben Robson, Mishel Prada, Jessica Allain, Hubert Point-Du, and Nhung Kate.

The EP team includes film franchise director Chad Stahelski, franchise creator Derek Kolstad, David Leitch, Albert Hughes, Thunder Road Pictures’ Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, Paul Wernick, Rhett Reese and Marshall Persinger.

The first and third episodes were directed by Albert Hughes (The Book of Eli, From Hell). Prolific television helmer Charlotte Brandstrom (The Witcher, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) directs the second.

The Continental will be released on Prime Video in Australia and Peacock in the U.S. on September 22nd.
