Netflix has released the first official trailer for The Eternaut, a six-episode sci-fi thriller set in Buenos Aires during a mysterious and deadly snowstorm. Based on the influential graphic novel by Héctor Germán Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López, the live-action adaptation follows a group of survivors navigating a collapsing world—one snowflake at a time. Set in a city where snowfall is historically rare, the story begins when an unexpected flurry turns lethal. Anyone touched by the snow dies instantly. As millions perish, a small group manages to survive by sealing themselves indoors, wearing protective layers, and venturing out only when absolutely necessary. Leading the resistance is Juan Salvo, played by acclaimed Argentine actor Ricardo Darín (The Secret in Their Eyes, Argentina, 1985), who sets out into the frozen unknown in search of his daughter and answers.

The trailer teases an eerie, slow-creeping apocalypse as survivors face not just the killer snow. As with many of these apocalyptic stories, the monsters are often fellow humans, going primal and turning on one another to survive and have more resources. But, as we get a glimpse of right at the end, there may be more literal monsters to watch out for.
The series was created and directed by Bruno Stagnaro (Okupas), who co-wrote the screenplay with writer and actor Ariel Staltari (Recurrence). “[The Eternaut] was one of the first things I read in full in my life, when I was 10 years old,” Stagnaro said to Netflix site Tudum. “My approach to the adaptation will be to be faithful to that child reader who came across the story for the first time, to try to reconstruct the genuine emotion of living an adventure on the corner of your neighborhood, and the construction of that great Argentine hero that is Juan Salvo.”
Filmed entirely in Buenos Aires, the series keeps the story rooted in its original location. “The city is a living presence, almost like another character,” Stagnaro said.
The Eternaut‘s cast also includes Carla Peterson (Blondi), César Troncoso (Yosi, the Regretful Spy), Andrea Pietra (An Unexpected Love), Ariel Staltari (Recurrence), Marcelo Subiotto (Puan), Claudio Martínez Bel (Rojo), Orianna Cárdenas, and Mora Fisz (Tierra Incógnita).
The series premieres globally on Netflix on April 30.
