Marvel Studios has finally released the trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, offering a look at the MCU’s long-awaited take on the iconic superhero team – this time in a retro-futuristic 1960s world. Watch above.
The latest iteration of the Fantastic Four: Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us), Vanessa Kirby (The Crown), Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear), stepping into the roles of Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ben Grimm (The Thing), respectively.
The film follows the team as they grapple with their responsibilities as heroes while staying united as a family. Their latest challenge finds them defending Earth from Galactus, a cosmic entity with a hunger for planets, played by Ralph Ineson. Assisting him is the Silver Surfer, portrayed by Julia Garner (Ozark), whose presence complicates matters even further.
The film is directed by Matt Shakman, who directed all nine episodes of Marvel’s Disney+ series WandaVision (one of the better series outputs from Marvel, at least according to this writer). The cast also includes Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles in undisclosed roles.
With Marvel Studios positioning The Fantastic Four: First Steps as a key part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Six, anticipation is high. Let’s hope it delivers. The film is set to arrive in Australian cinemas on July 24 and U.S. cinemas on July 25.
