Netflix has acquired action-comedy The Man from Toronto, led by Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson, from Sony Pictures.

As recently as a week ago, Sony had the completed film scheduled for a theatrical release in August. Netflix will now be releasing it sometime later this year, with worldwide rights in all territories except China – Sony still holds all its rights there. As for the film’s home entertainment and linear TV windows, that’s still on Sony’s end. Variety broke the news, reporting that this acquisition falls under an exclusive first-look deal that Sony made with Netflix back in April 2021.

The Man from Toronto tells of what unfolds when the world’s deadliest assassin, known as the “man from Toronto” (Harrelson), runs into New York’s biggest screw-up, Teddy (Hart), at an Airbnb. When the two are mistaken for one another, their worlds collide.

The supporting cast includes Kaley Cuoco, Jasmine Mathews, Lela Loren, Pierson Fode, Tomohisa Yamashita, Kate Drummond, Jencarlos Canela and Ellen Barkin.

The film is directed by Australian helmer Patrick Hughes, who previously directed The Hitman’s Bodyguard and its sequel The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, as well as The Expendables 3 and Red Hill. The script was written by Chris Bremner (Bad Boys for Life) and Robbie Fox (Playing for Keeps).

Hart shared various behind-the-scenes pics from The Man from Toronto‘s shoot in late 2020:
