‘The Sandman’ Season 2 Trailer: Morpheus Faces Fate as Netflix’s Final Chapter Begins

Netflix has released the official trailer for The Sandman season 2, the highly anticipated final chapter of the dark fantasy series adapted from Neil Gaiman’s beloved comic. Tom Sturridge returns as Dream, also known as Morpheus, whose story is set to reach its cosmic conclusion in what showrunner Allan Heinberg calls “a full and complete circle.” Take a look above and learn more below.

Picking up weeks after the events of season 1, Dream is seen rebuilding the Dreaming — but despite his efforts to move forward, the past continues to exert its hold. The trailer previews a visually rich, emotionally charged season that blends personal reckonings with mythological scale. As threats from Lucifer, new realms, and estranged family members gather, Dream’s control over his domain falters. “Dreaming will survive… even if I do not,” he says.

Season 2 pulls from the Season of Mists and Brief Lives arcs of the comics and brings in a host of new characters, including Adrian Lester as Destiny, Esmé Creed-Miles as Delirium, and Barry Sloane as the long-missing Prodigal. Returning cast includes Kirby as Death, Mason Alexander Park as Desire, Donna Preston as Despair, and Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer.

Speaking to Netflix site Tudum, Heinberg, who writes and executive produces, described the production as a rare experience for everyone involved. “We all understood from the beginning that a show like The Sandman is extremely rare,” he said. “Knowing this was our final season — knowing where we were going, story-wise — allowed us to prep and plan to use our time and budget to the fullest.”

He also teased how the story will stay true to the source while still offering surprises: “Our adaptation aims to be faithful to the movements of Dream’s story, but in a way that I hope will surprise the book’s loyal fans.”

The Sandman season 2 will be released in three parts: Volume 1 (Episodes 1–6) on July 3, Volume 2 (Episodes 7–11) on July 24, and a special bonus episode on July 31.
