Tom Hanks is getting ready to set sail once more. A sequel to the 2020 World War II drama Greyhound is officially on the way, with production slated to begin in January 2026 in Sydney, Australia.
Hanks is set to reprise his role as Captain Krause and has once again penned the screenplay, continuing his involvement with the franchise. The two-time Oscar winner wrote the first Greyhound film, based on C.S. Forester’s 1955 novel The Good Shepherd. Director Aaron Schneider (Get Low) is also returning, along with producer Gary Goetzman for Playtone.
As first reported by Deadline, the next chapter will follow Krause and the Greyhound crew from the beaches of Normandy into the Pacific Ocean, as they continue fighting to turn the tide of World War II. Talks are underway to bring back key cast members from the first film, including Stephen Graham (Adolescence), though no deals are finalised just yet.
Released on Apple TV+ in 2020, Greyhound saw Hanks play an inexperienced U.S. Navy commander leading an Allied convoy across the Atlantic, all while being hunted by German U-boats. The film earned critical praise for its intense pacing and authenticity, and it became a standout success for Apple TV+, especially as theatrical releases slowed during the pandemic.
