Watching Katherine Heigl parade around in the bridesmaid dresses of weddings past is the ultimate foreshadowing for when you and your girlfriends get married. Trying to decide who will make her minions bridesmaids wear the fugliest dresses will leave you with sore abs from laughing so hard. Plus, who doesn’t want to watch James Marsden trying to woo Katherine all night?

9. Breakfast At Tiffany’s (1961)

This classic is perfect for a GNI, not only because it highlights the iconic Audrey Hepburn, but also because it’s a quirky girls love story. You and your girlfriends will love watching Holly Golightly develop her relationship with the new man in her building, and seeing the way he fits into her socialite lifestyle.

8. Bridesmaids (2011)

Every girl has a best friend that she knows she’ll one day serve as a MOH (maid of honor). Bridesmaids tells the story of one woman in that exact position, but it comes at a less than ideal time in her life, resulting in her having to wing it a bit during the pre-wedding festivities. Watch this film with the girls you’ll have in your bridal party one day, and see if you can decide who’s-who in your group of crazy friends. Maybe you’ll even pick up some ideas for your bestie’s big day!

7. A Walk to Remember (2002)

Walk-to-Remember

A love story, a tragedy, and a musical number? This is GNI gold. There are many different reasons we women have these gatherings, and this is a flick that’s perfect for those nights someone has gone through a break up and there’s chocolate ice cream and wine involved, or when all of your cycles are synced and you all just need a good cry. Mandy Moore plays a young, conservative girl with sharp wit, while Shane West plays the typical high school bad-boy, who turns out to have a heart after all. The love story that unfolds between these star-crossed lovers is intense and pure, making this a classic movie for a GNI.

6. Mean Girls (2004)

Film Title: Mean Girls.

Do I really need to explain why this is the perfect movie to watch with your girlfriends? Any girl born before 1994 has almost certainly seen this movie, and most of us can quote it on demand. In fact, some of this generations best one liners probably come from Mean Girls, as it’s so easy to translate them into real life scenarios. The highschool setting makes this a film that everyone can relate to, whether you were a Band Geek, an Art Freak, or even a Plastic. When Cady Heron comes to a new highschool, with no real experience interacting with her peers, we get to see the way human nature really works, and it’s both a funny and slightly stressful journey.

5. Clueless (1995)

If you’ve planned a night out with your girlfriends, watch this while you’re getting ready to channel your inner fashion critic. Cher reminds us all of the fashion rules of the 90’s, and watching her make over her friends will help you get in the mood to get ready for a great night out!

4. The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

Every girl can relate to Andy’s new exposure to the fashion world, as we all went through an awkward stage we wish we could forget. There’s also an unspoken rule of not mocking the shallow and flighty world of fashion, so seeing Andy challenge that rule is both funny and cringe-worthy. Her ventures into what’s right and wrong in the cutthroat fashion world is another thing we can all relate to, and watching this with your girlfriends makes it a real experience.

3. He’s Just Not That Into You (2009)

Plus, Ginnifer Goodwin’s hissy fit makes the whole thing worthwhile.

2. Legally Blonde (2001)

Who doesn’t love a good reinvention story?! Although at first glance it may seem like a bubblegum movie that sets feminism back 100 years, it’s so much more than that. As Elle becomes a deeper person, with a greater sense of self-respect and empowerment, we root for her to find someone better for her than her pedigreed boyfriend Warner. You and all of your girls will revel in Elle’s achievements, not to mention the one-liners you’ll pick up.

1. Friends With Benefits (2011)

The love story that most girls of our generation have been a part of. Being FWB’s, and trying to have it progress into a relationship is more difficult than climbing Everest in a bikini and high heels. But, in this film, Jamie and Dylan enter into their tangled web with the mutual understanding that there would be NO EMOTIONS. Yeah. Right. This movie is the epitome of rom coms, with hilarious comedic delivery by Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake, 90’s references, and even Woody Allen. Put this in the DVD player, grab the popcorn and wine, and prepare to fall even more in love with JT than your 10-year-old counterpart was. And a little bit with Mila Kunis as well.
