Disney has dropped the official trailer for Zootopia 2, the studio’s follow-up to its 2016 CG-animated hit.
The first film was a bonafide success, earning over USD$1 billion at the global box office (from a reported budget of USD$150 million) and winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Nearly a decade later, Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde are back—and their partnership isn’t exactly running smoothly.

Counselling sessions, slithering suspects, and strained teamwork
Zootopia 2 sees Judy (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick (Jason Bateman) hit a rough patch in their post-case glory days. Ordered into the “Partners in Crisis” counselling program by Chief Bogo (Idris Elba), the two find themselves sitting across from Dr. Fuzzby, a zen-like quokka therapist voiced by Quinta Brunson. It doesn’t take long before Judy’s intense enthusiasm and Nick’s avoidant sarcasm get called out—hard.
But their emotional baggage has to take a backseat when a new mystery slinks into town. The first reptile in ages has arrived in the all-mammal metropolis: Gary De’Snake, a venomous pit viper voiced by Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan. Though he claims to be helping his family, his presence throws the city into chaos, and Judy and Nick are tasked with finding him before things spiral.
New faces, returning favourites, and pop bangers
The trailer teases not just new characters—like Gary, Dr. Fuzzby, and Nibbles (voiced by Fortune Feimster), but also plenty of familiar ones. Expect the return of fan-favourite DMV sloths, Mr. Big and his shrew mafia, and pop sensation Gazelle (voiced by Shakira), who might just have another hit on her hooves.
Director and co-writer Jared Bush, who helped shape the original, returns to expand the world even further. “It’s been an absolute joy to reteam with so many actors who made the first film so special,” he said in a statement. “And so exciting to expand the world with our phenomenal new cast members. I can’t wait for audiences to see what other surprises we have in store in this brand-new adventure.”
Zootopia 2 is set to open in U.S. cinemas on November 26 and in Australian cinemas on November 27.
