New ‘A Complete Unknown’ Trailer: Timothée Chalamet Sings Like Bob Dylan in Upcoming Biopic

The official trailer has arrived for A Complete Unknown, the upcoming biopic that sees Timothée Chalamet stepping into the role of music legend Bob Dylan. Take a look above.

Directed by James Mangold (the Logan and Ford v Ferrari helmer who also directed Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line), the film is set against the backdrop of a vibrant music scene and cultural upheaval in New York during the early 1960s. Dylan, then a 19-year-old from Minnesota, arrives in the West Village with his guitar and soon finds himself at the forefront of a music revolution. As he navigates his rise to stardom, he begins to distance himself from the folk music movement and makes decisions that would reverberate throughout the world of music.

The trailer highlights key events from this transformative time, including Dylan’s move from Minnesota to New York, his early relationship with Suze Rotolo (renamed Sylvie Russo in the film, played by Elle Fanning), his partnership with fellow folk singer Joan Baez (Monica Barbaro), and the pivotal moment at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival where Dylan famously shocked the folk community by going electric.

In addition to focusing on these personal and musical turning points, the trailer showcases Chalamet performing some of Dylan’s iconic songs, including “Girl From The North Country” and “Like A Rolling Stone.” Chalamet performs his own vocals in the film, marking another musical outing for the actor following his role in Wonka.

The film boasts a strong ensemble cast, including Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash, Dan Fogler as Dylan’s manager Albert Grossman, Norbert Leo Butz as Alan Lomax, and Scoot McNairy as Woody Guthrie.

A Complete Unknown is co-written by James Mangold and Jay Cocks, with Mangold also producing alongside Fred Berger, Alex Heineman, Bob Bookman, and others.

The film is set for a US theatrical release on December 25, 2024, with an Australian release scheduled for January 23, 2025.
