Netflix has unveiled the full-length official trailer for Atlas, an expensive-looking sci-fi film led by Jennifer Lopez.
The film has J.Lo playing a government data analyst – with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence – on a mission to bring down the AI terrorist, Harlan (played by Shang-Chi star Simu Liu), who led the robot revolution. When a new mission goes awry and she finds herself stranded on a distant plane, strapped into a high-powered armour suit, she realises she may have to push that distrust aside.
“I loved that this is a big sci-fi action movie, but at its core, it’s a story of friendship — and a love story, in a way,” Lopez said in an interview with Netflix site Tudum. “I always see everything as a love story, but this is a different kind of love between two beings who connect in disastrous circumstances, and teach each other how to be more human.”

Speaking about his AI villain, Harlan, Liu explained, “He was created by a brilliant scientist to be a protector of mankind, but unfortunately, you know how some things go.” And regarding his performance: “I basically built Harlan from all of my favourite movies and TV shows that have ever featured artificial lifeforms, like Michael Fassbender in Prometheus, Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation, HAL from 2001: A Space Odyssey, and so many more.”
The film was directed by San Andreas and Rampage helmer Brad Peyton, with a screenplay written by Leo Sardarian (StartUp) and Aron Eli Coleite (Locke & Key).
Atlas, with a supporting cast includes Sterling K. Brown, Gregory James Cohan, Abraham Popoola, Lana Parrilla, and Mark Strong, will be streaming on Netflix from May 24th.
