Netflix has just dropped the official trailer for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, marking the return of Eddie Murphy as the iconic Axel Foley.
So, what’s the scoop this time? Detective Axel Foley teams up with his daughter Jane (Taylour Paige) and a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) after Jane’s life is threatened. Alongside old pals Billy Rosewood and Taggart (Judge Reinhold and John Ashton reprising their respective roles), they dive into a high-stakes conspiracy.
Franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer, known for hits like Top Gun: Maverick and The Rock, told Netflix site Tudum, “Eddie’s such an incredible artist. He can do drama, he can do comedy – he can do anything. And he’s the same Axel Foley. He’s still on the streets. He’s still doing what he does. Obviously with age you get wiser. But he still has the twinkle in his eye.”
Beverly Hills has evolved since Axel’s first visit in 1984, and so has he. Bruckheimer says, “Detroit is much different from Los Angeles and especially Beverly Hills. He still has the same wonderment at the things you see walking down Rodeo Drive.”
Director Mark Molloy, an Aussie making his feature debut, adds, “Some of the funniest moments in Axel F are when Eddie’s improvising. My job was to create the right environment and cast the right people around Eddie to allow him to do what he does best.”
The new film also brings back franchise stars Paul Reiser (Aliens) and Bronson Pinchot (Perfect Strangers), with newcomers including Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Project Power) as Detective Abbott, Taylour Paige (Zola) as Jane, and Kevin Bacon (Footloose) as Captain Cade Grant.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F hits Netflix on July 3.
