‘Death of a Unicorn’ Trailer: Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd Hit a Horse with a Protrusion in A24 Dark Comedy

Take a look above at the first trailer for Death of a Unicorn, a bonkers-looking A24 black comedy starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega.

The story follows Elliot (Rudd) and Riley (Ortega), a father-daughter duo, whose trip to a weekend retreat takes a bizarre turn when they accidentally hit and kill a unicorn. Yep! Their efforts to cover up the accident become increasingly complicated as they discover that the unicorn’s blood and horn hold miraculous curative properties—a fact that Elliot’s billionaire boss (played by Richard E. Grant) quickly seeks to exploit. Meanwhile, the mythical creature’s loved ones are out for revenge.

The film’s supporting cast includes Téa Leoni, Will Poulter, Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani, and Jessica Hynes.

This marks the feature directorial debut of writer-director Alex Scharfman, whose previous credits include producing Resurrection and House of Spoils. Produced by A24 and Ley Line Entertainment, the film includes notable contributors such as executive producer Ari Aster (the filmmaker known for Midsommar and Hereditary) and a score by John Carpenter, his son Cody Carpenter, and Daniel Davies. Filming took place in Hungary in 2023 and continued through the SAG-AFTRA strike after the production was granted a waiver.

Death of a Unicorn is set to hit cinemas in 2025, with A24 distributing in the US and VVS Films handling the Australian release. A specific release date has yet to be announced.
