“The love story… is never the whole story.”
The full-length trailer has arrived for Deep Water, a psychological thriller starring once real-life couple Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas. They play Vic and Melinda, an affluent New Orleans couple whose marriage is well and truly on the rocks, with heavy resentment, jealousy, and mistrust taking a toll. A deadly game of cat and mouse develops as Melinda’s extramarital dalliances start going missing. “This isn’t a game,” Vic tells Melinda. She responds coldly, “It’s always been a game.”
There’s potential for a strong thriller here, with Affleck back in Gone Girl mode and Armas appearing to chew up her femme fatale role with gusto. The film is directed by Adrian Lyne, who’s well versed in guilty-pleasure steamy thrillers having previously directed 9½ Weeks, Fatal Attraction, Indecent Proposal and Unfaithful. The screenplay, an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s 1957 novel of the same name, was written by Euphoria creator Sam Levinson and Zach Helm (Stranger Than Fiction, Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium).
Deep Water, also starring Tracy Letts, Rachel Blanchard, Dash Mihok, Lil Rel Howery, Jacob Elordi, Finn Wittrock, and Kristen Connolly, will be streaming on Amazon Prime Video in Australia and Hulu in the U.S. from March 18th.
