It appears that Amazon Prime Video will be the home of a live-action God of War series, based on the popular video game franchise.

Amazon Studios is in negotiations for the series adaption, with Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions involved as well. Deadline broke the news, reporting that the series will be coming from Children of Men and Iron Man scribes Mark Fergus and Hawk Otsby, who are creators and executive producers of acclaimed sci-fi series The Expanse, and Rafe Judkins, executive producer/showrunner of Amazon fantasy series The Wheel of Time.

Apart from that, there’s little else known about the project, with Amazon and co. yet to comment.

Created by David Jaffe, the God of War games initially centred on Kratos, a former Spartan warrior searching for vengeance against the Greek God of War, Ares. The franchise kicked off with a PlayStation 2 game released in 2005. Nine more games across multiple platforms followed, with 2018’s God of War – released to wide acclaim and award recognition – changing up the franchise’s Greek mythology focus to Norse mythology. The next game in the franchise, God of War: Ragnarok, will be released for PlayStation 4 and 5 sometime this year.

Another series based on a David Jaffe-created game franchise, Twisted Metal, is in the works over at Peacock. Anthony Mackie is set to star in that one.
