‘DMZ’ Trailer: Rosario Dawson Searches for Her Son in Post-Apocalyptic DC Comics Series

HBO Max

Take a look at the trailer that’s arrived for HBO Max‘s four-episode limited series DMZ, based on the acclaimed comic series published by DC Comics under their Vertigo imprint.

The story is set in the near future, with the island of Manhattan turned into a demilitarized zone (DMZ) following the Second American Civil War. The zone is caught between forces of the United States of America and secessionist Free States of America. Rosario Dawson plays NYC medic Alma Ortega, who, while on a harrowing quest to find her lost son, finds herself becoming the symbol of hope for the occupants trapped inside the DMZ.

Some promising elements here, even if the trailer suggests a somewhat familiar-looking show. The series was created by Robert Patino, whose previous writing credits include Westworld and Sons of Anarchy. Patino executive produces alongside Ava DuVernay and ARRAY Filmworks’ Paul Garnes.

The ever-reliable Dawson has had quite the television run of late; Netflix’s Defenders universe, Jane the Virgin, The Last Kids on Earth, Briarpatch, Dopesick, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett – all in the last few years alone. Here she leads a cast that includes Benjamin Bratt, Hoon Lee, Freddy Miyares, Jordan Preston Carter, Venus Ariel, and Mamie Gummer, among others.

DMZ will premiere on HBO Max on March 18th.
