Marvel Studios debuted the official full-length trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness during the Super Bowl – and yes, it’s freakin’ awesome.
Director Sam Raimi (Spider-Man trilogy, The Evil Dead) enters the MCU with a chapter that finds Benedict Cumberbatch‘s magic-wielding hero in deeeeep trouble after messing with space-time. We’ve had MCU multiverse craziness unfolding in Loki, What If? and Spider-Man: No Way Home, but it looks like it hasn’t really hit the fan until now. As realities collide, bringing in threats that include an ultra powerful and evil Doc Strange and a tentacled monster known as Gargantos, Strange is forced to gather the help of mystical allies both old and new. Elizabeth Olsen reprises her role as Wanda Maximoff, although things on her end could also be on shaky ground following her transition to Scarlet Witch in WandaVision.
The exciting trailer below offers up a number of exciting moments – and enough enticing snippets to have fans going into a speculation frenzy. There’s the matter of that mysterious voice, who many are confident is in fact Patrick Stewart (eeek!); there’s a moment that looks like Captain Marvel (or a Cap Marv variant?) fighting Scarlet Witch; there’s a taste of the inclusion of Marvel secret society The Illuminati (who are those shadowy figures a handcuffed Strange is facing?!); and more.
The cast includes returning faces Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, and Michael Stühlbarg, reprising their roles as Mordo, Wong, Christine Palmer, and Dr. Nicodemus West, respectively. Newcomers include Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez, a teenager with the ability to travel through the multiverse and into other realities.
Enjoy the big trailer below, and be sure to check out the film’s new poster beneath it. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will open in Australian cinemas on May 5th and U.S. cinemas on May 6th.
