‘Emily in Paris’ Season 5: Plot, Cast, Locations and What’s Next for Emily

Netflix

Emily Cooper is swapping croissants for carbonara — at least for a little while.

Production on Emily in Paris season 5 is currently underway, with filming having officially kicked off back in May. Netflix marked the occasion with behind-the-scenes footage and a Rome-set tease featuring star Lily Collins and co-star Eugenio Franceschini, who plays Italian fashion heir Marcello. As confirmed by Netflix, filming will return to Paris later in the summer.

Let’s take a look at everything we know so far about the fifth season of the Netflix rom-com.

Rome Becomes the New Runway

While the series may not be changing its name any time soon, Emily in Paris is stepping beyond the City of Lights. Season 5 will see Emily spending significant time in Rome, having been tasked with opening a new Agence Grateau office.

“The cast and crew of Emily in Paris are thrilled to begin filming Season 5 in the Eternal City,” creator Darren Star said to Netflix site Tudum. “From Parisian rooftops to Roman ruins, we can’t wait to share where Emily’s next chapter takes us.”

But don’t worry — Paris still plays a role. “It doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris,” Star added. “But she’s going to have a presence in Rome.”

A Complicated Love Life (Of Course)

The new season picks up after Emily’s big move — both emotionally and geographically. Having begun a romance with the dashing Marcello in season 4, Emily left her entanglement with Gabriel behind… just as he had a revelation about wanting to be with her.

“Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance,” Collins said. “We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time.”

Star confirmed that the Marcello storyline isn’t a fling. “I feel like they have a real spark and a real connection and a real romantic connection,” he said. “A lot of that’s going to continue to play out next season.”

Still, Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) isn’t exactly out of the picture. As Collins put it, “Gabriel has to deal with the repercussions of his choice.”

Returning Faces and New Additions

The season will once again feature Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Ashley Park, Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery, William Abadie, Lucien Laviscount, Thalia Besson, and Arnaud Binard — alongside Collins, Bravo, and Franceschini. Also returning are Paul Forman as Nico and new-ish addition Bryan Greenberg as Jake, an American expat.

New to the cast are Michèle Laroque as Sylvie’s old friend Yvette and Minnie Driver, who joins as Princess Jane — another of Sylvie’s socialite connections, this time with a royal twist.

Release Date?

Although we don’t have a precise date to lock in as yet, we do know that season 5 is slated to premiere sometime later this year.

The fourth season premiered in August 2024 and made a strong showing, topping Netflix’s Global Top 10 and reaching 93 countries, with 19.9 million views in its first four days.

With a new office, a new romance, and a potential old flame still burning, Emily’s European adventure is far from over.
