New ‘Flight Risk’ Trailer: Mel Gibson Directs a Killer, Bold Mark Wahlberg in Plane Thriller

The new trailer for Flight Risk has arrived, offering a glimpse at Mark Wahlberg in a role unlike anything we’ve seen from him before. Directed by Mel Gibson, the film is an airborne thriller that pits Wahlberg’s unsettling hitman against Michelle Dockery’s determined FBI agent. Take a look above.

The story unfolds aboard a small plane crossing the Alaskan wilderness. Dockery plays Agent Madelyn Harris, tasked with transporting a key witness, Winston (played by Topher Grace), to testify in a mob trial. Things take a sharp turn when the plane’s pilot, Daryl Booth (Wahlberg), reveals himself as a hired killer intent on silencing Winston. What follows is a deadly game of survival at 30,000 feet, where no one can be trusted.

The film appears to be a bit of a different outing for Gibson the filmmaker, stepping back behind the camera for the first time as director following 2016 war drama Hacksaw Ridge. Perhaps best known for directing more epic, prestige-style pictures such as Braveheart, The Passion of the Christ, and Apocalypto, it’ll be interesting to see Gibson’s take on a pulpy, B-movie aesthetic. The screenplay was penned by Jared Rosenberg (the writer’s first produced feature script).

Flight Risk, also starring Leah Remini, Maaz Ali, and Paul Ben-Victor, will open in US cinemas on 24 January.
