Take a look at the official trailer that’s arrived for Halo, Paramount+’s upcoming live-action series adaptation of the popular video game franchise.

It’s time to meet “humanity’s best weapon”: Master Chief Petty Officier (played by Den of Thieves‘ Pablo Schreiber), a genetically-engineered supersoldier known as a “Spartan”. He’s a weapon that’s been crafted to be wielded by the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) in the 26th-century war with the Covenant, a military alliance of alien races.

“He is lethal, upgradeable, and most importantly, controllable,” says UNSC scientist and creator of the Spartan-II Project, Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Halsey (Natascha McElhone). Hmm, controllable, you say?

An ambitious-looking series here. The trailer shows off some large-scale action and special effects, with a number of nods scattered throughout for Halo fans. Let’s hope the show’s bumpy road to fruition doesn’t result in smudges on the final product. It’s been a longtime coming, going through a long period of development hell before finally getting the go-ahead at Showtime in 2018. It wasn’t over. The series then went from Showtime to Paramount+ in early 2021, with showrunners Kyle Killien and Steven Kane announcing they would depart – Killien before production on the first season even began and Kane choosing not to continue for season 2.

The cast includes Yerin Ha as Kwan Ha Boo; Charlie Murphy as Makee; Shabana Azmi as Admiral Margaret Parangosky; Bokeem Woodbine as Soren-066; Olive Gray as Miranda Keyes; Rafael Fernandez as Captain Jacob Keyes; and Jen Taylor, reprising her game role as artificial intelligence Cortana.

Hallo will be premiering on Paramount+ on March 24th.
