The trailer has arrived for Hatching, a Finnish horror film that looks perfect for those that like their body horror and unsettling family depictions.

The film follows Tinja (Siiri Solalinna), a 12-year-old girl who is desperate to please her image-obsessed, difficult mother. One day, Tinja discovers a mysterious egg. She decides to take it home and take care of it. It hatches and what it releases… well, yeeeeesh.

A potent trailer below, kicking off with a disturbing moment early and leading to flashes of what looks like some pretty out-there horror. A potentially unique bit of icky cinema here. One qualm: the trailer includes a reveal towards the end that feels a tad spoilerish, although, of course, it remains to be seen if it was better kept under wraps.

This attention-grabbing work marks the feature debut for Finnish helmer Hanna Bergholm, who has previously crafted a number of short films. The script was written by Ilja Rautsi.

Looking forward to being shaken up by this one! Hatching, also starring Sophia Heikkilä, Saija Lentonen, and Jani Volanen, will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 22nd and be released in U.S. cinemas and VOD on April 29th.
