Another Super Bowl-timed trailer here. 20th Century Studios has unveiled the big official trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign. New trailer above and new character posters below.

As the trailer shows, apes have risen to become the dominant species. Humans, reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, we follow a young ape (played by Owen Teague, It) who undertakes a harrowing journey that unites him with a special human (Freya Allan, The Witcher) and causes him to not only question all that he has known about the past, but to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.

Director here is Wes Ball, best known for directing the Maze Runner trilogy. The screenplay comes from Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds), and Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (Avatar: The Way of Water), and Patrick Aison (Prey).

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, with a cast that also includes Kevin Durand (Locke & Key), Peter Macon (Shameless), and William H. Macy (Fargo), opens in Australian cinemas on May 9th and U.S. cinemas on May 10th.
