Take a look above at the official teaser that Netflix has released for Leave the World Behind, an apocalyptic thriller starring Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke, Myha’la, Farrah Mackenzie, Charlie Evans and Kevin Bacon.
An adaptation of the 2020 novel of the same name by author Rumaan Alam, Leave the World Behind tells of Amanda (Roberts) and her husband Clay (Hawke), who rent a luxurious home for the weekend with their kids, Archie (Evans) and Rose (Mackenzie). Their vacation is soon upended when two strangers — G.H. (Ali) and his daughter Ruth (Myha’la) — arrive in the night, bearing news of a mysterious cyberattack and seeking refuge in the house they claim is theirs. The two families reckon with a looming disaster that grows more terrifying by the minute, forcing everyone to come to terms with their places in a collapsing world
The film is directed and written by Sam Esmail, perhaps best known for creating series Mr. Robot and Homecoming. This is Esmail’s second feature as director; he previously helmed 2014 parallel universe-set dramedy Comet.
Leave the World Behind will be streaming on Netflix from December 8th. The film will have a limited theatrical run in the U.S. from November 22nd.
