Netflix has dropped the official trailer for Love Con Revenge, a new docuseries tackling the dark world of romance scams — and it’s led by someone who knows the damage firsthand.

Premiering September 5, the six-episode series sees The Tinder Swindler’s Cecilie Fjellhøy team up with private investigator Brianne Joseph to investigate real-life romance fraud cases. Together, they take on scammers who hide behind love to steal from their victims and help those who can’t find support through traditional channels.

“I never imagined my personal story would resonate the way it has,” Fjellhøy told Tudum. “Since The Tinder Swindler, I’ve heard from people all over the world who’ve been targeted by criminals hiding behind love. Love Con Revenge is a way for me to use what I’ve learned to help others heal, reclaim their voices, their power, and their lives.”

A look at the crime they’re fighting

Romance fraud occurs when a scammer creates a fake relationship to build trust, only to exploit that trust for money or personal information. Many of these schemes start online, making them hard to detect until significant harm is done. According to reports, the cost of such crimes runs over $1 billion annually in the U.S. alone.

Executive producer James O’Reilly told Tudum, “Love Con Revenge uncovers the jaw-dropping scale of romance fraud — and the emotional and financial toll it takes on victims. This is a truly modern crime that is exploding in the United States and around the world. It’s been incredible to follow Cecilie and Brianne as they investigate these cases — to bring justice to the victims, and hold the perpetrators to account who’ve gotten away with this for far too long.”

Produced by Twenty Twenty Productions Limited, the series is led by showrunner Chris McLaughlin, with Ruth Kelly serving as executive producer, Max Shapira directing, and James O’Reilly as creative director.
