The first trailer has landed for Magazine Dreams, the long-delayed drama starring Jonathan Majors as a troubled bodybuilder chasing fame. Take a look above.
Majors stars as Killian Maddox, an amateur bodybuilder with dreams of making it big in the sport. His relentless pursuit of success comes at great personal cost, as he pushes his body beyond its limits and struggles with both his physical and mental health. The cast includes Haley Bennett, Taylour Paige, Mike O’Hearn, Harrison Page, and Harriet Sansom Harris. Elijah Bynum (Hot Summer Nights) serves as writer and director.
The film’s journey to release has been turbulent. Searchlight acquired the rights in a competitive bidding war after a successful Sundance premiere in 2023, but by early 2024, the distributor severed ties with the project following Majors’ arrest and subsequent conviction on charges related to an incident involving his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. His legal troubles also led to his removal from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he had been set to play Kang the Conqueror.
Briarcliff Entertainment picked up the film in October, opting to move forward with a theatrical release. The company has previously backed controversial projects, including The Apprentice, a Sebastian Stan-starring Donald Trump biopic that has earned two Oscar nominations.
Magazine Dreams is now set to hit US cinemas on March 21.
