Take a look at the trailer for period action-drama Medieval, starring Ben Foster as real-life historical Czech general Jan Žižka.

The film is inspired by the true story of this legendary figure – a man who led Hussite forces against three crusades and is believed to have never lost a single battle. The plot finds Žižka hired by Lord Boresh (Michael Caine) to kidnap Lady Katherine (Sophie Lowe), the fiancée of the powerful Lord Rosenberg (Til Schweiger). Boresh believes this will play a hand in stopping Rosenberg’s rise to power alongside the corrupt King Sigismund (Matthew Goode), who is eyeing the empty throne following the death of the Holy Roman Empire’s reigning emperor.

Medieval is directed and written by Czech actor-turned-filmmaker Petr Jákl, whose past acting credits include xXx and AVP: Alien vs. Predator. This is Jákl’s third feature as director following found-footage horror film Ghoul and police drama Kajínek.

Medieval will open in U.S. cinemas on September 9th.
