Michael Kelly made no secret of wanting a role in Landman. Now Taylor Sheridan has obliged. The Lioness star is officially joining the hit Paramount+ drama for season 3, giving Kelly a second ongoing role in Sheridan’s ever-expanding television world.
Kelly has been cast as William Crockett, a series regular who runs what Paramount describes as the largest oil management firm in the world. The official character description paints him as someone accustomed to serious money, serious business and getting things done efficiently. Crockett’s arrival gives the series a major new figure from the upper reaches of the oil industry to play with.
On Lioness, Kelly plays CIA Deputy Director Byron Westfield opposite Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman. He’s also well known for playing Doug Stamper across six seasons of House of Cards, a performance that earned him four Emmy nominations.

Kelly Was Already a Landman Fan
Kelly’s enthusiasm for the series goes back well before this casting. Asked about Landman while promoting Lioness, he previously said that getting a role in that world would make him “lose my mind”.
He was even less restrained while speaking to Us Weekly in July. “I f***ing love Landman. I love Billy Bob Thornton. I love Sam [Elliott]. It’s just such a fun show,” Kelly said. He added that he and his wife, Karyn, watch the series together.
Keeping his new job secret clearly wasn’t particularly easy. “I’ve been biting my tongue yall!” Kelly wrote on Instagram after the casting was announced. “I am beyond thrilled and excited to be joining the incredible cast over on @landmanpplus on @paramountplus Thank you to Taylor and everyone for letting me join the party!!”
Season 3 Is Taking Shape
Kelly is the first new cast member announced for season 3. He joins returning stars Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Ali Larter and Sam Elliott, along with Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan and Colm Feore.
Precisely where Crockett enters the story hasn’t been revealed, but his arrival could prove particularly interesting after the season 2 finale ended with Tommy outside M-Tex and helping establish CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle.
Paramount+ renewed Landman for season 3 in December 2025 after the second-season premiere pulled in more than 9.2 million streaming views during its first two days. The streamer said that made it the biggest original-series premiere in Paramount+ history. A premiere date for season 3 has yet to be announced.
