The official trailer for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story has dropped, offering a tense and energetic first look at Netflix‘s second instalment of the Monster anthology series, following DAHMER — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. Watch it above.

The Plot

Created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, the next chapter delves into the notorious case of Lyle and Erik Menendez, the two brothers convicted of killing their parents, José and Kitty Menendez, in their Beverly Hills home in 1989. The show looks at the events that led to the brothers’ fatal shooting of their parents and the subsequent media frenzy surrounding the case. The brothers alleged years of parental abuse as their motivation, but prosecutors maintained that their true intent was to inherit the family’s wealth.

The Cast

The cast features acclaimed actors Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny as José and Kitty Menendez, with Nicholas Alexander Chavez (General Hospital) and Cooper Koch (Swallowed) portraying Lyle and Erik Menendez, respectively. Nathan Lane takes on the role of Dominick Dunne, the investigative journalist who covered the trial for Vanity Fair, while Ari Graynor plays Leslie Abramson, the defence attorney who fought for Erik Menendez.

The ensemble cast also includes Leslie Grossman as Judalon Smyth, a key witness in the case; Dallas Roberts as Dr. Jerome Oziel, Erik Menendez’s therapist; and Jason Butler Harner as Detective Les Zoeller, who led the investigation into the murders. Additionally, Enrique Murciano, Michael Gladis, and Drew Powell appear in supporting roles.

‘Dahmer’s Success

The new season follows the massive success of DAHMER — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, the first entry in the anthology, which became a record-breaking hit for Netflix in 2022. The series, with Evan Peters portraying cannibalistic serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, amassed over 1 billion hours of viewing in its first 60 days. Unsurprisingly, Netflix was quick to renew it for two additional seasons, each focusing on other infamous cases that left a significant impact on society.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is set to arrive on Netflix on 19 September.
