New ‘Moonfall’ Trailer: More Sci-Fi Destruction from ‘Independence Day’ Director Roland Emmerich

Roadshow Films

A big new trailer has arrived for upcoming sci-fi epic Moonfall, the latest film from destruction-loving helmer Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, 2012, The Day After Tomorrow).

The threat to the world this time: the moon. When a mysterious force knocks our satellite planet from its orbit, it is placed on a collision course with Earth. With just weeks left until impact and everything is destroyed, a former astronaut and NASA executive  (Halle Berry), an astronaut from her past (Patrick Wilson), and a conspiracy theorist (John Bradley) find themselves as the unlikely heroes on a last-ditch mission. Oh, and our moon? Yeah, it’s fake… or something.

I can be a sucker for a well-crafted blockbuster in this vein, and Emmerich’s 2012 remains a “guilty” pleasure of mine. This looks proudly bonkers and visually stunning; fingers crossed it’s as fun as it has the potential to be.

Also starring Michael Peña (who has, surprisingly, barely been featured in the marketing so far), Charlie Plummer, Kelly Yu, Eme Ikwuakor, Carolina Bartczak, and Donald Sutherland, Moonfall will be colliding with Australian cinemas on February 3rd and U.S. cinemas on February 4th.
