Amazon Studios has released the trailer for Night Sky, an upcoming sci-fi drama series led by Oscar winners Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons.

The series follows Irene and Franklin (played by Spacek and Simmons, respectively), a couple who have quite the feature in their backyard. Years ago, you see, they discovered a chamber buried behind their house that inexplicably leads to a strange, deserted planet. They have managed to keep the chamber secret over the years, but their quiet existence is quickly upended when an enigmatic young man, Jude (Chai Hansen, The 100), enters their lives. They soon discover that the mystifying chamber they thought they knew so well is much more than they could ever have imagined.

An intriguing one here. The trailer teases a balance of emotional, character-driven drama with Irene and Franklin’s sweet-looking relationship and a grittier side with Jude and those that are after him. And then there’s the sci-fi of it all. As Spacek’s Irene says at one point: “I need to see where all this leads.”

Night Sky was created by Holden Miller, who also serves as co-executive producer. Daniel C. Connolly (Into the Badlands, The Son) is the series showrunner and is on the EP team that includes Jimmy Miller, Sam Hansen and Philip Martin.

Watch out for Night Sky, also starring Kiah McKirnan, Julieta Zylberberg, Rocío Hernández and Adam Bartle, to hit Amazon Prime Video on May 20th.
