A big new trailer has been released for Lightyear, the upcoming DisneyӢPixar adventure that unveils the story of Buzz Lightyear, the astronaut that goes on to serve as inspiration for the toy we meet in the Toy Story movies.

The film finds the legendary Space Ranger (voiced by Chris Evans here) and others attempting to leave a hostile planet they have been marooned on. He – along with a charming robot companion cat, Sox (Peter Sohn) – manages to take off on a trip that is to take him a few minutes. Well, as the trailer shows, what is a few minutes for him ends up being years back on the planet he’s just left. When he crashlands back, things are… different.

Disney”¢Pixar embracing sci-fi goodness in this adventure, with plenty of action and laughs – and, as you just know there will be, heart – to make us all comfortable with the fact that they’re still juicing the Toy Story franchise. Admittedly, it’s a smart way to do it. This looks great.

Quite the voice cast, including Keke Palmer, Taika Waititi and Dale Soules as the Junior Zap Patrol’s Izzy Hawthorne, Mo Morrison and Darby Steel, respectively; James Brolin as the enigmatic Zurg; Mary McDonald-Lewis as onboard computer I.V.A.N.; Isiah Whitlock Jr. as Commander Burnside; Efren Ramirez as Airman Diaz; and Keira Hairston as Young Izzy.

The film is directed by Angus MacLane, who was co-director of Finding Dory and director of Toy Story shorts, Toy Story Toons: Small Fry and Toy Story of Terror. MacLane also penned the screenplay alongside Onward scribe Jason Headley.

Lightyear will be blasting into Australian cinemas on June 16th and U.S. cinemas on June 17th.
