Paramount Pictures has unveiled the trailer for the upcoming action-comedy Novocaine, led by Jack Quaid (The Boys, Scream, Star Trek: Lower Decks). Looks like a bonkers, amusingly gnarly action-comedy. Take a look above.
Quaid stars as Nate Caine, a seemingly unremarkable everyman with an extraordinary twist: a rare condition called CIPA (Congenital Insensitivity to Pain). While this disorder presents its challenges—like needing to time bathroom breaks or blending food to avoid injury—it also turns out to be Nate’s secret weapon when his new girlfriend (played by Amber Midthunder of Prey) is taken hostage during a bank heist. The trailer showcases our unexpected hero’s transformation from mild-mannered banker to ass-kicker, shrugging off injuries that would incapacitate most – whether it’s a knife in the hand or reaching into boiling oil. To be clear, his body still takes all the damage though.
The film comes from directors Dan Berk and Robert Olsen (Villains, Significant Other) and writer Lars Jacobson, with a supporting cast includes Ray Nicholson, Betty Gabriel, Matt Walsh, Lou Beatty Jr., Van Hengst, Conrad Kemp, and Jacob Batalon.
Novocaine is set to open in Australian cinemas on March 13th and US cinemas on March 14th.
