Put your fork down for a moment and take a look at the trailer that’s arrived for upcoming Netflix documentary Poisoned: The Dirty Truth About Your Food.
According to Netflix’s synopsis, the documentary serves as “a shocking indictment of the food industry and its regulators,” exposing “how decades of apathy and malfeasance have left the American food supply and its consumers vulnerable to deadly pathogens like e. Coli and salmonella.”
As the trailer shows, the documentary looks at the many shortcomings of what has been described by industry spokespeople as “the safest food supply in the world,” while also focusing in on individual cases of poisoning, such as that of a healthy teenage girl who suddenly found herself at death’s door after consuming contaminated food. “Profit is more important than ethics,” says one individual.
This is directed by Stephanie Soechtig, a documentarian who’s no stranger to taking on troubling industries; her credits include bottled water doco Tapped, obesity doco Fed Up, and gun control doco Under the Gun. Soechtig previously helmed Netflix’s cash-saving-tips doco Get Smart with Money.
Poisoned: The Dirty Truth About Your Food will be on Netflix from August 2nd.
