Our first look at the newest film in the Predator franchise has arrived in the form of an enticing teaser trailer.
Get ready for Prey, an action-thriller that takes the iconic alien hunter to the Comanche Nation – 300 years ago. The film follows a young woman, Naru (played by Amber Midthunder, Legion, Roswell, New Mexico), a fierce, skilled warrior raised by legendary hunters. When danger arrives, threatening her people, she embarks on a journey to stalk and confront it. As it turns out, this threat is a highly evolved alien predator with an arsenal that’s unlike anything she has ever seen. The battle is on.
The film marks the sophomore feature for director Dan Trachtenberg, who broke out in a big way with 2016’s 10 Cloverfield Lane. The screenplay was written by Patrick Aison, who comes with a strong background in television, having worked on shows such as Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Kingdom, and Wayward Pines.
It’s an interesting time and place to take the Predator – and it sounds like the creative team and the studio were determined to add as much authenticity as possible when it comes to portraying the Comanche and the Indigenous peoples. Producer Jhane Myers, a Comanche and Blackfeet American Indian, is known for her attention to detail and dedication to producing films that surround Comanche and Blackfeet nations. As a result, the cast is mostly comprised of Native and First Nation’s talent, among them: Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp (Sooyii), Michelle Thrush (The Journey Home), and Julian Black Antelope (Tribal).
Prey will be given an August 5th release on streaming service Hulu in the U.S. and released as a Star Original on Disney+ in other territories – including Australia.
