The trailer has arrived for the upcoming fantasy thriller Rabbit Trap, starring Dev Patel and Rosy McEwen. Marking the feature debut of director Bryn Chainey, the film weaves elements of folk horror into a tense portrait of a marriage strained by creativity, jealousy, and something ancient lurking in the woods. Watch the trailer above and read on for more.
Set in 1976, the story centres on musicians Daphne (Rosy McEwen, Vesper) and Darcy (Dev Patel), who escape city life for a remote cottage in Wales. Their search for calm takes a darker turn when Darcy’s field recordings capture a sound unknown to human ears. The strange discovery reignites Daphne’s artistic drive but unsettles the fragile quiet around them.
More on Screen Realm:
The couple’s uneasy balance is further disrupted by a rabbit trapper (Jade Croot, The Serpent Queen), whose presence shifts from reassuring to obsessive. As suspicion and doubt take hold, the boundary between personal turmoil and ancient myth begins to dissolve.
This is Chainey’s first feature following several shorts, with cinematographer Andreas Johannessen lensing the Welsh setting on 35mm film. Patel and McEwen anchor the supernatural unease with a grounded depiction of a partnership under strain, while the sound design and score deepen the atmosphere of dread.
Rabbit Trap opens in U.S. cinemas on September 12.
