Slow Horses is staying put at Slough House for a while longer. Apple TV+ has officially renewed the acclaimed spy drama for a seventh season, confirming another six episodes of darkly comic espionage action — even before season five has been released.
Gary Oldman, who was knighted earlier this year, continues to lead the series as Jackson Lamb, the irascible and brilliant MI5 agent in charge of the agency’s most unwanted operatives.
Season seven will be based on Bad Actors, the eighth book in Mick Herron’s best-selling Slough House series. The plot will follow Lamb and his team as they attempt to hunt down and neutralise a mole operating within the British government before catastrophe strikes.

The series has proven a consistent performer for Apple. All four released seasons are Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with seasons one and three landing perfect 100% critic scores. Season four was named Rotten Tomatoes’ number one series of 2024, and the third season picked up nine Primetime Emmy nominations, including a win for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.
Season five, arriving 24 September 2025, is based on Herron’s London Rules and centres around suspicious activity linked to tech whiz Roddy Ho. Season six — already filmed — adapts Joe Country and Slough House, with the team caught in a deadly cycle of retaliation stirred up by Diana Taverner, played by Kristin Scott Thomas.
Oldman: “A highlight of my career”
Oldman has made it clear that Lamb is a role he’s proud to keep returning to. “I consider it very much a highlight of my career,” the Oscar winner said in a 2024 AV Club interview. “It’s a wonderful character [and has] great source material that we do our best to honour each time out.”
Oldman also spoke warmly about the cast and crew dynamic behind the scenes, likening it to a theatre troupe: “The bonus, really—and the surprise of doing it—is this sort of company feel that we have. It’s the closest I’ve come to the theatre in that sense, of having a company. It’s like you have your own sort of conspiracy. You’re a gang, you know? You’re in a club. I’m very fond of them. They’re just an amazing, really lovely group of people who I think have inhabited these characters and just do a brilliant job.”

Production team and what’s ahead
Slow Horses is produced for Apple TV+ by See-Saw Films, now part of the Mediawan group. Season seven will be adapted for television and executive produced by Ben Vanstone, with Robert McKillop set to direct. Additional executive producers include Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Dan Hassid, Mick Herron, Gail Mutrux, Douglas Urbanski, and Oldman himself.
With seasons five and six already in the can and the seventh now on the books, Slow Horses shows no signs of slowing down.
