Netflix has dropped the official trailer for Son of a Donkey, a new standalone comedy series bringing back iconic Superwog characters from YouTube duo Theo and Nathan Saidden. Watch the trailer above and read on for the essentials.
The setup
More on Screen Realm:
Theo finally moves out to claim a little independence — and immediately gets smacked with adult life: driving fines, internet scams, court-ordered therapy after a road-rage blow-up, and a mountain of family baggage. As ever, best mate Johnny is right there fanning the flames. It’s the same chaotic duo, a fresh scenario: growing up (sort of) without losing the edge.
Who’s behind it
Created by, written by, directed by, produced by, and starring the Saidden brothers, with Princess Pictures producing and VicScreen support. The Saiddens put it simply: “We’re so happy to announce our new show with Netflix. This will be the wildest show we’ve ever made. There’s new characters, bigger ideas, more action, more craziness. It’s just so exciting to be working with a service that puts us on screens all around the world.” The six-episode series was filmed on location in Melbourne.
From YouTube to Netflix
The brothers’ Superwog channel has amassed 3.4 million subscribers and 476 million views, which led to two ABC seasons (streamed globally on Netflix as Superbro) and Top 10 stays in Australia and New Zealand. Executive producers include Emma Fitzsimons, Elia Eliades, Laura Waters, Chris Loveall, and the Saiddens; produced by Mike Cowap and Antje Kulpe.
Son of a Donkey will stream globally on Netflix from October 30.
