Paramount Pictures has unveiled the final trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, showcasing plenty of action from the upcoming sequel.
Jim Carrey returns as the villainous Dr. Robotnik, who is this time searching for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilisations. He’s got a new partner, too – Knuckles the Echidna, voiced by Idris Elba. It’s up to Sonic (Ben Schwartz returning) and his own sidekick, Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey), to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.
Sonic the Hedgehog director Jeff Fowler and screenwriters Pat Casey & Josh Miller return for this bigger-looking follow-up. The first film was met with overall positive reviews and drew a box office of $US319 million worldwide from a budget of $US85 million, quickly paving the sequel for this sequel. Paramount’s certainly keen to keep this franchise growing; Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and a live-action series with Elba’s Knuckles have both been given the green light.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2, also starring James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, and Shemar Moore, will open in Australian cinemas on March 31st and U.S. cinemas on April 8th.
