Universal Pictures has unveiled the final trailer for upcoming CG-animated adventure The Super Mario Bros. Movie ahead of its early April release.

Chris Pratt voices Mario in this big-screen outing – the first CG-animated film to come from the giant Mario brand. It’s also the third film adaptation following 1986 Japanese anime film Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach! and 1993 live-action film Super Mario Bros.

What is the Plot?

The plot tells of two Brooklyn plumbers – brothers Mario and Luigi (voiced by Charlie Day) – who are transported down a mysterious pipe and wander into a magical new world. But when the brothers are separated, Mario embarks on an epic quest to find Luigi. With the assistance of a Mushroom Kingdom resident Toad (Keegan-Michael Key) and some training from the strong-willed ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), Mario taps into his own power.

Who Stars in the Movie?

Apart from Pratt, Day, Taylor-Joy, and Michael Key, the star-studded voice cast also includes Jack Black as Bowser, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. And in a nice nod for fans of the games, there’s going to be a special voice appearance by Charles Martinet, who has been the voice of Mario and Luigi in the Super Mario games for over three decades.

Who directed and wrote the movie?

The film is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (collaborators on Teen Titans Go!, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel (Minions: The Rise of Gru, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part).

Release date

The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be opening in Australian and U.S. cinemas on April 5th.
