New ‘Superman’ TV Spot Has Fans Talking – James Gunn Responds to Flying Scene Criticism

DC has unveiled a TV spot for James Gunn’s highly anticipated Superman and while it’s only 30 seconds long, it does come with a few new shots that’ll have fans hitting that pause button. One shot in particular is proving to be a big talking point: our Kryptonian superhero flying through a snowy landscape. Take a look above.

David Corenswet’s Superman can be seen soaring through jagged ice, heading straight for the camera. Some fans are loving the classic Superman vibe. Others, however, aren’t sold on the CGI. Gunn, often keen to respond, has jumped on Threads to shed some light on the shot.

A fan shared, “There’s something with his face that looks a little off. I know there’s plenty of time to refine the CG.”

Gunn’s response: “There is absolutely zero CG in his face. People’s faces can look different when you put a wide angle lens up close. The background plate in Svalbard is 100% real as is David.”

Besides the flight scene, the spot offers another peek at Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, looking both stylish and menacing as ever in a snow-covered setting. Hoult’s Luthor seems to be on the hunt, with speculation pointing to the Fortress of Solitude playing a key role in the film.

This marks a key moment for the DC Universe reboot, with Gunn under considerable pressure to get it right. As a key creative mind driving the future of the overall franchise, the stakes are high. If this falls short, it could cast serious doubt over the direction he and Peter Safran have charted moving forward. Fingers crossed all goes well here.

Superman, with a cast that includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl, among others, will be flying into Australian cinemas on 10 July and the U.S. on 11 July 2025. Stay tuned for the official trailer – expected to be released very soon.
