Take a look at the trailer that’s dropped for The Contractor, an upcoming action-thriller reuniting Hell or High Water stars Chris Pine and Ben Foster.
The film has Pine and Foster playing elite soldiers and best friends who find themselves let down by the U.S. military, with Pine’s James Harper involuntarily discharged and cut off from his pension. With debt mounting, Harper signs a contract with a private underground military force that claims to be working with presidential authority. Their first assignment, you guessed it, goes awry, placing Harper on the run and on a mission to uncover the real reason behind the betrayal.
Showtime and Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment acquired this one from STXfilms for U.S. distribution; the film will now open in the U.S. both theatrically and for digital purchase on April 1st. Make what you will of that release shakeup. As for the trailer, it seems okay enough for a mildly diverting, if very familiar watch. There’s a surprisingly solid supporting cast, though: Gillian Jacobs, Eddie Marsan, and Kiefer Sutherland.
The film is directed by Tarik Saleh, whose credits include 2009 animated sci-fi film Metropia, 2017 crime-noir The Nile Hilton Incident, and an episode of Westworld. J.P. Davis (Fighting Tommy Riley) penned the screenplay.
