Watch the trailer above for The Crow, a modern reimagining of the 1989 original graphic novel by James O’Barr.

Bill Skarsgård takes on the iconic role that Brandon Lee would fatefully play in the 1994 adaptation from Aussie filmmaker Alex Proyas. The plot follows Eric Draven (Skarsgård), who, along with his love, Shelly Webster (FKA twigs), is brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.

The film is directed by Rupert Sanders, helmer of Snow White and the Huntsman and the live-action Ghost in the Shell. The screenplay was penned by Zach Baylin (King Richard, Creed III) and William Josef Schneider.

A new adaptation of The Crow was stuck in development hell for years, with actors such as Jason Momoa, Bradley Cooper, and Luke Evans circling the lead role at various points. Fingers crossed this doesn’t disappoint.

The Crow, also starring Danny Huston, Isabella Wei, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila, and Jordan Bolger, will open in Australian cinemas on June 6th and U.S. cinemas on June 7th.
