A bloody first trailer has arrived for upcoming action-thriller The Equalizer, the third film in the Denzel Washington-led franchise.

The film catches up with Robert McCall (Washington) in Southern Italy, where has found an unexpected home after years and years of violence – first on behalf of the government and then on behalf of the oppressed. He’s going to have to deliver the pain once again, though, when he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: take down the mafia.

Franchise director Antoine Fuqua returns for chapter three, penned by returning screenwriter Richard Wenk. The cast includes Dakota Fanning (reuniting with her Man on Fire co-star), David Denman, Sonia Ben Ammar, and Remo Girone.

The Equalizer 3 will be opening in Australian cinemas on August 31st and U.S. cinemas on September 1st.
