Something twisted cometh for horror fans. Take a look above at the gnarly, utterly bonkers red band trailer that’s arrived for The Monkey, the cursed chaos on the way from Longlegs writer-director Osgood Perkins.
Based on Stephen King’s short story of the same name, the story centres on twin brothers Hal and Bill (both played by Theo James), who stumble upon their father’s old toy monkey in the attic. Innocuous at first glance, the wind-up monkey with its clapping cymbals soon proves to be anything but harmless. As the toy’s presence correlates with a string of grisly deaths, the brothers try to destroy it. Fast-forward twenty-five years, and the cursed contraption resurfaces, forcing the now-estranged siblings to face their terrifying past and prevent further bloodshed.
The cast includes Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings), and Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth), the latter of whom portrays the younger versions of the twin brothers. Filmmaker James Wan (The Conjuring, Saw) is among the producers.
Expectations for some dark, gory thrills are high—and this trailer doesn’t disappoint. The Monkey takes its cymbal-clashing chaos to Australian cinemas on 20 February and U.S. cinemas on 21 February.
