The trailer has arrived for The Paper, a new mockumentary series from The Office creator Greg Daniels — set in the same universe as the beloved sitcom.

The same documentary crew, a brand-new workplace
After nine seasons capturing the day-to-day chaos of Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch, the Office documentary crew has a new subject: the Toledo Truth Teller. Once a historic Midwestern newspaper, the publication is now fighting for survival — and the cameras are there to capture every awkward, ill-prepared step.
Domhnall Gleeson takes the lead as Ned Sampson, the newly hired editor-in-chief brought in to breathe life back into the failing paper. The enthusiasm is there, but the staff’s journalistic credentials leave much to be desired — one cites a junior high term paper, another boasts about their tweets, and someone else offers up their group chat contributions as relevant experience.
A familiar face from The Office
In a nod to the series’ roots, Oscar Nuñez returns as Oscar Martinez, the former Scranton accountant now reluctantly drawn into the Truth Teller’s orbit. He’s not exactly thrilled to see the documentary crew again, and the trailer shows him meeting their return with characteristic grouchiness.
The cast also includes Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus), Chelsea Frei (The Moodys), Melvin Gregg (American Vandal), Gbemisola Ikumelo (A League of Their Own), Alex Edelman (Just For Us), Ramona Young (Never Have I Ever), and Tim Key (This Time with Alan Partridge).
Behind the camera
Created by Greg Daniels and Michael Koman (Nathan for You), the series has an impressive directing line-up, with Daniels, Ken Kwapis, Paul Lieberstein, Jennifer Celotta, and more taking turns behind the lens. Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant — the minds behind the original UK Office — are also on board as executive producers, alongside Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas.
Release date
The Paper premieres with four episodes on Peacock in the U.S. and Binge/Foxtel in Australia on September 4, with new episodes released weekly.
