‘The Pickup’ Trailer: Eddie Murphy & Pete Davidson Face a Heist in Prime Video Action-Comedy

Prime Video has released the official trailer for The Pickup, an action-comedy that teams up Eddie Murphy with Pete Davidson. Directed by Tim Story (Barbershop, The Blackening), the film throws two SNL alums into a chaotic heist story where dodging bullets is only half the problem. Take a look above and learn more below.

Murphy plays Russell, a seasoned armored truck driver just trying to make it home for his 25th wedding anniversary dinner. Davidson is Travis, his less-than-prepared co-worker who recently had a one-night stand with Zoe (Keke Palmer) — the same woman now leading a crew of criminals ambushing their route.

As it turns out, Zoe’s plan goes far beyond the cash in the truck. With guns drawn and motives personal, both drivers find themselves forced into her high-stakes scheme — with Russell’s wife (played by Eva Longoria) quickly becoming leverage.

The trailer teases a frantic and unfiltered comedy – with an old-school odd-couple angle. “I’m moving on to a new career,” Russell tells Travis in the trailer. “You’re pivoting this late?” Travis asks. “How old do you think I am?” Russell responds. Travis doesn’t miss a beat: “Well, you’re Black, so you look 40, but you could be up to 90.”

Murphy and Davidson, both former Saturday Night Live cast members (albeit decades apart), bring very different energies to the screen — a point not lost on the cast and filmmakers.

Speaking on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Murphy said of Davidson: “Yeah, I thought he was funny. I watch the show all the time, Saturday Night Live, and I always thought he was funny, absolutely.”

Keke Palmer added, “[Davidson] looked up to Eddie a lot too. It was really cool to see y’all two together.”

Director Tim Story also praised Murphy’s influence beyond comedy: “What’s cool is… you hear a lot about our comedians always talking about how much [Eddie] makes an impact on them. What you sometimes don’t hear is how he’s impacted filmmakers. A lot of what I do is — he’s a big reason why I make the movies I’ve made.”

Alongside Murphy, Davidson, Palmer, and Longoria, the film’s cast also features Ismael Cruz Córdova, Marshawn Lynch, Andrew Dice Clay, Jack Kesy, and Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i. The screenplay was written by Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider (the duo who previously penned Netflix comedy The Package).

The Pickup premieres globally on Prime Video on August 6.
